NASA Space Apps Challenge 2017
The IT University of Copenhagen is proud to host NASA’s International Space Apps Challenge, one of the largest hackathons in the universe, for the second year in a row on April 28-30.
Space Apps inspires local innovation communities in cities across six continents to convene, ideate and build. Diverse and collaborative teams of students, technologists, scientists, designers, entrepreneurs, are invited to work together in a 48-hour sprint to develop answers to some of the most pressing challenges facing planet Earth using NASA data.
Copenhagen (and Denmark) participated in NASA Space Apps for the first time in 2016, and we are proud to announce that the event is returning this year on the 28th, 29th and 30th of April. The expected number of participants is 100-150. Registration and agenda will soon be available here.
Empowered by open data, participants will collaborate in teams to solve perplexing challenges in new and unexpected ways – incorporating design skills, story telling, programming, concept development and passion for building innovative solutions challenges.
1,300 projects were developed during the 2016 Space Apps, many open source solutions with immediate value to NASA and the global community. In Copenhagen, more than 100 participants attended during the three days – The Bootcamp day and the 2-day Hackathon. Eleven high-quality solutions were submitted by teams consisting of 2 to 6 people coming from various institutions and universities. The solutions and basic descriptions can be found on the official website here. The quality of the projects was high according to the judges who evaluated the impact, creativity, product, sustainability and presentation.
